Michael Reiss has been a Research and Teaching Associate and SNF doctoral student in the Media Change & Innovation Division at the Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ), University of Zurich since September 2018. Previously he studied at Heidelberg University (Germany) where he received a Bachelor each in Sociology and Economics in 2015. Subsequently Michael completed the master’s programs Socio-Ecological Economics and Policy at the Vienna University of Economics (Austria) and Social Research Methods at the London School of Economics and Political Science (United Kingdom).
His research interests involve news consumption and methods of computational social science. At IKMZ he is mainly engaged in a SNF research project on algorithmic selection in everyday life.
Michael Reiss successfully completed his doctoral studies at the end of October 2023. He defended his cumulative dissertation entitled “News must die for news to live. Empirical, methodological, conceptual, and theoretical perspectives on contemporary news consumption and a proposal for a normative turn.”
